White coat seal pup by Shadow-and-Flame-86 White coat seal pup by Shadow-and-Flame-86
A young grey seal pup, probably just under a week old. Taken on the isle of may, scotland.

Please note, this photograph was taken from a hide during a routine survey of the breeding colony, please do not approach or disturb breeding seals with pups. Mothers will abandon pups if people come too close, and then the pups will starve to death.

Soooo many seal pictures

But soooo cute!

If you ever come to Canada, whale-watching off the coast of Nova Scotia is great. Cute little harp seals poke their heads out of the water to watch you go by with their big dark eyes... very cute. And the whales are very curious and willingly come over to check out the Zodiacs. I think they're show offs too, one fluked and when we all cheered a few of the others started doing it too. I haven't seen any whale pictures in your albums! Or maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

You always have such great pictures! So jealous!

hehe I have a whole gallery on DA for my whale and dolphin shots, its here: [link] =)

I used to work with humpback whales in america and australia before I started my phd on seals. They are amazing animals and hopefully I'll get to work with them again!

I just went and looked. You're so lucky, being able to travel around to study such amazing creatures.

I had troubles photographing them... they're so big only a tiny part of them ever comes out of the water at a time! Most of my pictures are just of a dark grey mound out of the water, with no real way to understand what you're looking at... Sigh... so difficult... Plus the sea was really rough that day.

they are tricky to photograph, it takes lots of practise to time the shots right and to be able to predict where they will come up! choppy seas don't help either.
